Our History

Kildalkey Golf Society (formerly known as The Snug House Golf Society) was founded in 2006 by Paul Rochford, David Brady, Justin Corrigan, Damien Prior, Jimmy Clarke and Bill Hayes. The Honorary President was Joe Davis until 2017.
Our current president is a founder member in the guise of Mr. Bill Hayes

The Society's first outing was to Delvin Castle on 16th September 2006 where John Dolan won the day. The Society had averaged five outings a year which then increased to 7 in recent years and now to 8 in 2019 as it was felt the summer break was too long.

The Society depended on the good will of sponsors which enabled it to survive in its early years and helped it to play better courses and provide decent prizes.
The sponsorship for our early years which helped it get established included Trevor Darling who sponsored the Headfort GC outing in 2008. Paul Rochford/Bill Hayes/Joe Turner/Thomas Gethin sponsored the Trim outing in 2009. John Dolan/David Dolan/James Monaghan sponsored the Headfort GC outing in 2010. Damien Corrigan main sponsor, Thomas Gethin sponsored the Captains Day outing to Laytown Bettystown in 2010.

Electrolux Home Appliances sponsored the Society for two years 2013-2014 which was a fantastic help.

Recent sponsors include:

  • Progressive Plumbing Ltd.- Tom and Brian Carroll
  • Oliver Henry Electrical
  • Kinside Ltd UPVC Windows & Doors - Stephen Kelly
  • Arch Plumbing & Heating - Cormac Reilly
  • Dempsey Travel - Trim
  • Harmom Oil
  • Athboy Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic

The Society took part in a Ryder Cup style competition with another local society named Marcie's in Trim. It ran for 5 years from 2012-2016 before interest wained and it's currently on a sabbatical. Kildalkey were up 3-2 as of the last match in 2016. Each Society hosted on alternate years with after match food supplied by the hosts in their local hostelry. All the results can be found here. We are on the lookout for another local area Society to restart the competition.

The Society also makes a donation to charity each year from funds and fundraising activities such as our annual Table Quiz. Past donations include:

  • 2007 - Meals-on-Wheels Trim
  • 2008 - Crumlin Childrens Hospital
  • 2009 - Kildalkey Active Retirement
  • 2010 - Mannix Kane Appeal
  • 2011 - Kildalkey Scouts
  • 2012 - Kildalkey Playground Appeal
  • 2013 - Kildalkey Tidy Towns
  • 2014 - Kildalkey/Ballivor Branch SVP
  • 2015 - Kildalkey U14 Camogie Team
  • 2016 - MS Ireland
  • 2017 - Meath Hospice
  • 2018 - Kildalkey/Ballivor Branch SVP
  • 2019 - Trim Family Resource Centre

The Society has gone from strength to strength in recent years with membership now standing at 50 members as of 2018. This increased membership and recent sponsorship has afforded the Society to play a range of top class courses over the last few seasons.
