Kildalkey GS & Marcies Captains exchange Ryder Cup 2013

2014 Ryder Cup Changes hands again

Marcies (Trim) took back the Ryder Cup trophy from Kildalkey GC on Saturday 11th October, 2014 which was played in Co. Meath GC.The score was 9.5 to 8.5. Kildalkey just needed a half point from the final group to retain the cup, but it wasn't to be. The morning foursomes started out in foggy conditions, which lifted for a fine afternoon in the singles. The cup may well have been retained before the final group completed, as a wrong ball was played earlier in the day and the game was conceded to Marcies.

Kildalkey lost the morning foursomes by a score of 4 to 2, but by mid afternoon had clawed that back and were up 5 to 3 in the singles and all square in the other match. That made it 7 a piece with all to play for over the last remaining few holes covering three matches. But Marcies emerged victors this year. The overall score is now 2-1 to Marcies and we hope to even that up in 2015.

Scores to follow.

All intending players must confirm their attendance by 8.00pm on Thursday 15th May. An open draw will then be held at 9.00pm the same evening in the Snug House (all welcome) and tee times will be allocated. Tee times will be posted here immediately afterwards, and also texted out to you Friday morning. You must be present at least 30 minutes before your allotted tee off. Fee for members is €50, which includes a main course. €70 for non-members.

All efforts to avoid slow play should be employed by players. Remember to hit a provisional before leaving the tee box if you suspect you ball might be in trouble. Please also bear in mind that there is an onus on your group to be directly behind the group in front of you and NOT to be just in front of the group behind you.

Rathcore GC - 12/04/2014

Captain Mattie Lynch presents to Rathcore winner John Darby

The seasons second outing to Rathcore saw 35 players turn up for a 2:00pm start made up of 31 members and 4 visitors. A slight drizzle before the first tee off dissipated to reveal some pleasant sunshine. Midway through, clouds rolled over and a cool wind prevented what could have been some high scoring.
Visiting member and former local publican, John Darby, took the spoils with a score of 35 points. Anthony Quinn took second spot from Stephen Kelly in third, on a count back, with 33 points. Category winners were David Dolan, John O'Connor and Mattie Lynch (capt.) Longest drive went to former Captain and visitor Ray Murray. New member Ray Gunning took nearest the pin. Aidan Bagnall won the visitors prize. The 2's was split four ways between David Dolan, Anthony Quinn, PJ Ward and Kenny Wymes.

Former Captain from 2007, Ray Murray, was presented with a Society Captains shirt. Three members who had scored 40 points or over in the past were presented with the Societies 0ver 40's shirts. They were Ian Kennedy, Trevor Darling and John O'Connor. The evening continued back at the Snug House, for some, where another game of darts broke out.

Killeen Castle - 23/03/2014

Captain Mattie Lynch gets the 2014 season off at Killeen

Our first outing of the new season kicked off at Killeen Castle with new Captain Mattie Lynch opening proceedings with the first 3 ball of the day on the Championship course. We had a great turnout with a field of 35 which included 2 new members and the return of 8 former members. Former local publican John Darby joined us having come all the way from Galway. Weather was crisp but dry to start, with a cool breeze keeping temperatures down. There was a nasty shower just as the field completed the first 9 which when cleared, dampened the wind and upped the temperature a bit.

Returning member Tommy Masterson took the honours with a first place score of 35 points. New member Cormac Foley took second on a count back from PJ Ward taking third spot. Category winners were Derek Doogan, Brendan Corrigan and Karl Stewart. Longest drive went to another new member, Brian Herevin and Stephen Skelly taking nearest the pin. Martin Hickey won the 2's Club. There was no visitors prize as all 35 out had joined as members.

New Captain Mattie Lynch played a stormer in making his first presentations of the new season to all the winners at Killeen. The evening continued back at the Snug House with light refreshments (as if) and post mortems. Then a game of darts broke out where new partnerships and rivalries were formed.
